I remember I was living in Haiti and five years old when I heard “7 Seconds”, I had no idea who the artists that sung the song were until years later. The melody stuck with me as I grew up…As you can see my love and ear for music started at a very young age. Youssou N’Dour is an amazing music composer, the arrangement in his music were original and this song was only one of his many great songs, but “7 Seconds” was the song that shook the world and build the awareness of Youssou N’Dour’s music. I also remember having a crush on Neneh Cherry…I guess I can say crush because at 5 years old I thought she was a beautiful woman. I told one of my brother’s that I thought she was very beautiful when I was little and he called me a freak. lol. It appears that I also had a good eye for beauty because she was indeed beautiful and her singing made her all the more attractive in a sense. Though “7 Seconds” have a sad message and mellow tone, it was a hit at a point in time and is one of those songs many have sort of forgot about, but still remain epic to those that have loved music of all genres for a while. Youssou N’Dour set a mark for Senegalese musicians, that is yet to be broken with the style of music he composed… not even by Akon.
