Chrisette Michele Audrey Hepburn: An Audiovisual R&B Mixtape

Born in Central Islip, New York, Chrisette Michele and grew up in Patchogue. Being raised by a father that was a deacon and a mother that was a choir director her destiny pushed her to becoming part of gospel choirs in high school. Chrisette is a Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York graduate with a vocal performance degree. Her ability to make good music and sing with such control with a soulful voice was not only a gift, but also reflects a talent that Chrisette Michele polished.

The American R&B and soul singer-songwriter is signed to the Island Def Jam Music Group and in 2009 won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for a song of hers entitled “Be OK”. The track produced by Will.I.Am in 2007 served as a hit single and soulful hit song. Her vocal performance, harmonies, and energy in the song made it a classic record. Unfortunately R&B in 2012 in comparison to R&B in 2007 are no longer the same.

In 2012 Chrisette Michele released a free mixtape entitled “Audrey Hepburn: An Audiovisual” and that title fits the music project perfectly. The songs on the free mixtape are downright disrespectful and too good to really be just given away for free. I am surprised the label or her marketing team would agree to this. It is like giving away gold or pure diamonds to the masses.

Truly before this very mixtape I viewed the artist as a modern day Aretha Franklin. The song “Fragile” backs up that statement. Her gift to sing with so much passion and vocal precision is like no other. Take a moment to enjoy the free mixtape by the talented musician and songwriter. As an R&B music listener one of my favorite late singers was Gerald Levert. Though a male artist I think he is the only male musician I could compare this talented female artist to. I have to emphasize that the power behind her vocals.

Michele brings a phenomenal demonstration of experience and the total fullness of great vocal control. “Charades” one of her songs featuring rap artist 2 Chainz is something that should be playing on the radio and in the top 10 R&B charts. It is almost sad listening to this beautiful music, but knowing that this is a free mixtape and music project. Her talent is nothing new or at its beginning. The artist has several years in the music industry as a vocalist and songwriter.

The vibe of the song is very smooth and laid back. If someone enjoys tunes that are sultry, sensual, emotional, sexy, and classic records ”Charades” is definitely a track to lay back and just put on repeat to let tune one’s mind. “Favela Chic” is another classic record from the musician that express a lot of swag, confidence, and great music composition and arrangement.
