Malcolm X Drawing

This drawing of Malcolm X is the second drawing I have ever created of a civil rights activist. The first artwork I created of an activist was in 2007 while I was still in high school of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I have so much respect for the African American males that left their marks in history; who are still recognized and remembered still in the current day and age. As a Haitian black male I believe they did not only pave the way for African American, but for all black nations around the world as the iconic leaders of the past.

A little about Malcolm X

According to his biography on MalcolmX.com Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. His mother, Louise Norton Little, was a homemaker occupied with the family’s eight children. His father, Earl Little, was an outspoken Baptist minister and avid supporter of Black Nationalist leader Marcus Garvey. Earl’s civil rights activism prompted death threats from the white supremacist organization Black Legion, forcing the family to relocate twice before Malcolm’s fourth birthday.

Regardless of the Little’s efforts to elude the Legion, in 1929 their Lansing, Michigan home was burned to the ground. Two years later, Earl’s body was found lying across the town’s trolley tracks. Police ruled both incidents as accidents, but the Little’s were certain that members of the Black Legion were responsible. Louise suffered emotional breakdown several years after the death of her husband and was committed to a mental institution. Her children were split up amongst various foster homes and orphanages.

On the website is also a very emotional quote from Malcolm X.

“When my mother was pregnant with me, she told me later, a party of hooded Klu Klux Klan riders galloped up to our home… Brandishing their shotguns and rifles, they shouted for my father to come out.”

The hardship that people of color dealt with back then is somewhat similar to what the homosexuals have been through in the past two to three decades. Can you imagine what that must have felt like for Malcolm X’s family at that time; so much fear must have over taken their hearts. From the media, rappers, comedians and even high school students lowering them as individuals because they were gay. Emotionally how can one say to two are different when it was a fight for freedom for them as well. My view on those that are homosexual is that they should be able to do as they please. This is what makes America the free country that have been flocked to by many.

Malcolm X was a bold man that I wish I had the opportunity to shake his hand to tell him thank you for helping leading the United States African Americans to freedom alongside many other great activist.
