The Greatest Showman Art - The Most Beautiful Zendaya and Zac Efron Art

Watching The Greatest Showman Before Creating The Art

Prior to creating the digital illustration of Zack Efron and Zendaya, I went to see the film the greatest showman. I had planned to go watch the movie because I wanted to understand the characters and the purpose of the movie. As an artist creating art is becoming more and more about trying to capture in motion.

Photography does a great job of catching people‘s expressions and emotion in my Opinion. However, it is extremely difficult and challenging to create a visual artwork that captures emotion. Capturing expression, on the other hand, is something art naturally does when it is created.

An Inspiring Film

The greatest showman is a very inspiring film. It is truly the greatest musical cinematic movie I’ve seen in a long time. I continue to reference it to Moulin Rouge because that movie was also one of my favorites when it first came out.

I remember drowning myself in music soundtrack for the movie. In a similar manner, I found myself also playing the soundtrack to the greatest showman on repeat.

Later on, I will share my top five records from the soundtrack of the greatest showman.

The Greatest Showman Artwork and The Process

When I started the digital painting of the two characters I chose to illustrate from the movie I had no regard for time. Sometimes I keep track of the hours that I spent painting illustrations, but with this piece, I really didn’t care how long it took and just worked and Effortlessly on it.

My goal was to create something magical, wonderful, and that represent beauty while still capturing the characters of Zendaya and Zac Efron (Anne Wheeler and Phillip). I believe I achieved this goal visually.

The illustration took a lot of hours to digitally paint. Most of the artworks I’ve created with his abundance of detail take 30-60 hours. Knowing this I just dove into creating the art piece with no regard for time. I find that when I don’t think about the time I am spending on an artwork in allows me to create freely. What I enjoy most about creating art is the fact that it is therapeutic for me and with my own direction I am completely free.

With that said, I have no idea how many hours I spent on this artwork, but I am glad it took me as long as it did. Since it was recently published I am giving it some time for viewers to see and interact with the artwork via social media and on the blog. Depending on the reaction I may create another piece or two inspired by other characters from the greatest showman musical film.

The greatest showman is filled with stories within the main story. All of the primary characters, which the movie focus on teach us something about society and individuals.

Emotional Connection To The Greatest Showman

I had an emotional connection to the greatest showman because I am also very passionate about music. For a long time since I was 16 years old, I had this dream of being a musician. With this dream that I made a goal for a short period of my life, I had an emotional connection to the greatest showman because I am also very passionate about music.

For a long time since I was 16 years old, I had this dream of being a musician. With this dream that I made a goal for about 10 years in my life, I learned how to write music, record vocals, and do audio editing.

Because of my love for music as well as art I found a deep connection to the musical. In high school, I was a drama student and also in the choir. The greatest showman is truly the example of cinematic theater most if not all drama students enthusiastic about acting will love.

From a scale of 1 to 10, I give the movie a 10 if we are judging it based on musical standards, plot, and acting. I was overly impressed by Hughes Hackman performance as PT Barnum. He delivered a very convincing character, which was not surprising because have you seen his Wolverine and X-Men movies. The man truly was born to be an actor. Leading the way and connecting all the characters together work naturally for him as the lead actor.

I have this great concept for another illustration in mind, but it may take me some time to complete. This illustration would focus on Hackman’s character as the greatest showman ever.

Critics Will Be Critics

Some will argue against the film because it is not the most historically accurate depiction of PT Barnum's life. If you want a documentary the movie is not for you, it's as simple as that. However, if you want something that is packed with emotion, drama, music and inspiring. The Greatest Showman is a great movie to watch.

Art Direction Through Music

My sense of art direction for the specific illustration of Zac Efron and Zendaya can you from their song for the film “Rewrite The Stars”. I had this idea of creating a portrait style artwork of the two characters together. In the illustration, I wanted to also include multiple stares around the figures.

If you have followed my work for a while you know that I love space and implementing clusters of stars already in my body of work. I decided to keep this concept in this piece that I created, but with a very subtle approach. In the artwork, I also wanted to keep the circus theme going from the movie to the use of the background.

Some of the other elements I decided to combine with the artwork or butterflies as well as gold. The film is not about luxury and it is not about wealth, but it is about the dream of a man PT Barnum who came from nothing and became the greatest showman on earth.

He did not have easy, but you never gave up on his vision to do something greater with his life. Along the way, he found characters Anne Wheeler and Phillip (portrayed by Zendaya and Zac Efron) who also had dreams of their own. The two characters followed PT Barnum along with his vision and also found each other in the process.

A Lesson In The Film

During their time Interracial couples were down upon. Even in the 21st-century people still, have this negative perception towards Black and white couples. It is not nearly as bad as it used to be however this part of the story still relate-able for some. The lyrics to “rewrite the stars” are about two of the characters trying to do what’s considered impossible or go against the grain.

You can’t take the stars from the sky and move them.Just like back then and society there was nothing you could do to really change anyone’s mind about who you could be with. Your social class, as well as your race, separated you from everyone else. Very subtle drama and regardless of what others thought of them, they decided to be together.

Part of The Lyrics

Part of the Lyrics of Rewrite The Stars
How do we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine?
Nothing can keep us apart
Cause you are the one I was meant to find
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be
And why don't we rewrite the stars?
Changing the world to be ours

(Genius Lyrics)

Golden Butterfly

Golden Butterfly

Golden Butterfly

The golden butterflies represent movement and dance. They also represent the freedom that the two characters gained by being together. In the illustration, I illustrated a big butterfly wing inspired by a dress that Zendaya wore to a premiere of the greatest showman. I was trying to think of a clever way to do it without throwing off the costume design for her specific character. Somehow I managed to balance the colors of the lavender and gold as well as magenta to make it work.

Details of the Zendaya and Zac Efron art piece

Below you will find some of the detail close-ups of elements That make dark or complete. From the rim lighting, shooting stars, Golden butterflies, and fabric texture Everything was important In making the illustration complete.

This is the third digital illustration I have done so far for 2018. I told myself that I was going to implement more texture Within the Art that I create this year. The eyepiece is a reflection also of my growth as an artist in the journey I am on as a digital painter.

Art on Instagram

Follow me for more art updates on Instagram at @KenalLouis. I post on Instagram more often than I do on my blog because I believe it is important to write and express my thoughts about the Art that I create through words as well.

Otherwise, I believe it would be pointless to have a blog or just pictures because there are so many other social media outlets I could use just post pictures with the caption with very little words.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and I hope that you decide to continue to follow me for more illustration artworks.
